================================================================
AmiNFSv3 - mount a Linux or NAS directory as an Amiga volume.
================================================================
WHAT IT IS
A mounted filesystem handler speaking NFSv3 over TCP. A directory
exported by a Linux machine or a NAS becomes an ordinary Amiga
volume: Workbench icon, device and volume name, and every program
simply uses it as a disk. The classic Amiga NFS clients speak
NFSv2 over UDP, which modern Linux servers no longer offer at
all; Stefan Franke's nfs3 mount utility speaks v3. AmiNFSv3 is a
full DOSDriver filesystem, and talks to a current kernel nfsd and
to a Synology NAS out of the box.
FEATURES
- Read and write, with honest failure handling: writes are
committed when a file closes, and the server's write verifier
is tracked - a server restart mid-file fails the Close instead
of losing data silently
- Automount from DEVS:DOSDrivers or mount-on-demand from Storage;
NFSDismount stops a handler cleanly, and the next access
remounts it fresh (replacing the handler binary needs no
reboot)
- Mount options for the volume name, identity (UID/GID), local
time zone, transfer sizes, and request pipelining - the
defaults are safe on any machine from a plain 68000 up, the
options let a fast setup stretch its legs
- Fast: on an A1200 with a PiStorm, 13-14 MB/s through c:Copy in
both directions, and 65 MB/s reading through an application
with a large buffer. Case-insensitive lookups the Amiga way,
correct behaviour verified byte-for-byte against the server
throughout development
- Files up to 4 GB (above 2 GB some AmigaDOS programs display
sizes wrongly - a 32-bit OS limit, not the handler's)
INSTALLATION
nfs-handler into L:, NFSDismount into C:, edit the NFS0 DOSDriver
(server address, export path, options) and Mount it. The full
manual - including the one /etc/exports line the Linux side
needs, the firewall ports, and per-setup tuning - is AmiNFSv3.doc.
